Keep Your Street Magic Simple

Good street magic is simple and simple magic is good! At least in the minds of the audience. If you cannot describe your street magic effect in one or two sentences, you may have made the effect too complicated. You may have the most fantastic method possible but if the audience does not understand what effect you are trying to create, the effect is lost. Remember, you are not performing to people who understand the complexity of the sleights or skills involved in creating your street magic.

For example, you may be doing a card trick. The effect should be something like "the card changed colour" or "the card cas cut into two pieces then restored back to one". Too many magicians perform multi-phase routines that leave the spectator thinking "What just happened?"

When performing a magic effect, you should try to keep the effect as clear as possible. Street Magic is not the art of confusing people. You are not there to puzzle your audience. You are there to amuse, amaze and most importantly entertain your audience.

A good analogy for this is:

K.I.S.S.  A.  T.I.T - Keep It Simple, Stupid And Think It Through
